Pretty Pale Pink Country Barn Wedding

Oh Charlotte and Jake, your pretty Spring nuptials have me all in a tizz this morning. There isn’t much not to love about delightful blooms, confetti and a barn setting now is there?

Charlotte and Jake decided to get hitched on the 24^th March 2016 at Easton Grange in Suffolk. Their vision was to create a country DIY affair and they crafted up a storm. Charlotte runs a cake business so you can only imagine just how gorgeous the sweet treats all were and pale pom poms tied in perfectly with the rustic log centrepieces in the barn.

Charlotte wore Maggie Sottero ‘Ascher’ which looked just stunning on her teamed with a classic veil and loose waves. Jake chose a navy suit with tweed waistcoat for a country cool look, while the divine bridesmaid dresses were from For Her And For Him.

THE PROPOSAL | We went out for a meal with friends on Christmas eve, when returning home Jake had got his mum to decorate our flat for him while we were out, he had wrote a 3 page letter, there were a dozen roses, and a bottle of champagne, the walls were covered in photos of us and fairy lights, it was perfect.

We got engaged on 24^th December 2013.

THE VISION | A vintage country wedding, including lots of DIY projects.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We planned our wedding over 2 years, the venue was booked first, then came my dress, everything else came from attending wedding fairs to source suppliers, and research through online shops and charity shops and boutiques. Jake was very involved throughout coming up with ideas and plans, we enjoyed the whole process and the setting up of the venue the day before.

THE VENUE | Easton Grange Wedding Venue

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress and veil were from Grace and Lace Colchester, and is a Maggie Sottero – Ascher, head piece was handmade by Dee Neicho jewellery designs.

FINDING THE DRESS | I went to two bridal shops to look for my dress, I went along with my mum and sister, it ended up being the second dress I tried on, it was what I wanted in terms of lace but not what I thought I wanted for style, but I loved it straight away, I definitely got the bridal feeling.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Jake’s suit was from The Grooms Room at Abigail’s Bridal in Colchester, Jake was given free rein over his suit, the only input I gave was on tie colour choices. He chose a navy suit with grey tweed waist coat.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We didn’t have any readings however our music was played on the harp by Xenia Horne, it was magical and sounded amazing.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had 4 beautiful bridesmaids and 1 maid of honour, 3 of my bridesmaids were my closest friends, the other my friend and cousin, and maid of honour was my sister. I ordered their dressed from For Her And For Him online, they were a beautiful pale pink, I gave them all a small hair piece to wear.

THE FLOWERS | The flowers were put together by Lesa from Blossom Me Darling, I ordered soft vintage colours, the amnesia rose, avalanche rose, white rose and Versilia rose, these roses were used in my bouquet along with gypsophila and greenery. The main rose was the avalanche, this was used for the grooms buttonhole, the bridesmaids bouquets, groomsmen, best men’s were gypsophila. The same flowers in my bouquet were used for the centre pieces too.

THE CAKE | I made my own cake, I run my own cake business part time. The cake was 5 tiers tall, the design was based on inspiration from the main colours and lace from my dress, the colours were based on those from the roses, the whole cake was painted in lustre paint to give a vintage shimmer, with draped dangling lace and appliqués, and handmade roses.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographer was Kerrie Mitchell, I first saw her work at a wedding fair, it was amazing, she made us always feel important and we loved the personal touches. Our engagement shoot looked amazing we can’t wait to see all our wedding photos.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | A lot of our little details we found ourselves, these included colour tissue paper pom poms, hessian bunting, wicker hearts on the aisle chairs, a genuine vintage suitcase for our cards, we even made our own order of service, printing onto wood, using a technique I found on pinterest, home made cupcakes for each guest with a little flag with their name on. A dessert table with home made meringues, cake pops, cake and cupcakes as well as pick and mix. Our florist decorated every other aisle chair with gypsophila as well as our entrance table, the entrance table had our card box and we ordered a fingerprint tree for everyone to do, the entrance table decorated with additional flowers in jam jars and crates. We also hired a giant light up love sign it looked beautiful, our first dance ended with a lovely confetti canon.

THE HONEYMOON | We haven’t yet booked our honeymoon we are still researching, however we did have a mini moon in centre parcs. We wanted to have a holiday to look forward to later in the year.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | We enjoyed getting ready at the venue separately but with our friends and family in the morning. We both however agree our favourite moment of the day was meeting each other down the aisle and exchanging our vows. We also found the speeches emotional and funny and a really nice part of the day. And also lastly celebrating in the evening having a drink and dance with all our closet friends and family.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | We were always told to enjoy the day as it goes very quickly, and it really does, take a moment to take it all in, also don’t let yourself worry about everyone else, just make sure you enjoy YOUR day. Give yourself time to plan and research for the big day. Also do the speeches at the start of the wedding breakfast so those doing them can relax for the food.
